ROUNDUP: Sixth runner propels Eldorado boys to victory

Eldorado’s boys cross country team used a sixth-runner tiebreaker to edge Sunrise Mountain and win a four-team meet Wednesday at Chaparral.

Eldorado and Sunrise Mountain tied with 44 points, but the Sundevils won because Josh Ririe finished 17th in 17 minutes, 57.7 seconds to top Sunrise Mountain’s sixth runner. Chaparral took third with 48 points. Moapa Valley was fourth with 86.

Sunrise Mountain’s Jose Barajas won the 2.6-mile race in 15:47.8, followed by teammate Luis Martinez in 15:55.5.

Moapa Valley’s Skyler Whipple was third in 16:10.3, followed by Eldorado’s Chris Rodriguez (16:13) and Chaparral’s Sam Cooper (16:33.6).

Hartle, Bulldogs breeze to win
At Faith Lutheran, Centennial had the top five finishers on its way to 15 points, outdistancing Palo Verde (42), Faith Lutheran (63) and Adelson School (80).

Centennial’s Nick Hartle won the 3.1-mile race in 15:39, followed by teammates George Espino in 17:01, Jackson Carter in 17:20, Tyler Hilt in 17:23 and Ian Lee in 17:24.

Depth helps Liberty edge Del Sol
At Basic, Liberty had five of the top 15 finishers on its way to 47 points and a victory over Del Sol (51), Boulder City (52) and Basic (71).

Basic’s Jonathan Stiles won the 2.5-mile race in 13:08.8.

Del Sol’s Nick Priego was second in 13:14.1, followed by Liberty’s Colin Schultz (14:00.8), Basic’s Will Gibbs (14:28.8) and Del Sol’s Obed Mireku (14:43.5).

Valley holds off Las Vegas, Canyon Springs

At Valley, the Vikings placed three runners in the top five to win a three-team race.

Valley finished with 34 points. Las Vegas was second with 36, followed by Canyon Springs with 59.

The Pioneers’ Kevin Beuchaert won the 3.1-mile race in 16:34. Valley’s Alec Millian was second in 16:43, and teammate Dawson Drake took third in 17:57.
