Gorman's boys take third in Wyoming tournament

Shabazz Muhammad’s layup with 12 seconds left Wednesday lifted Bishop Gorman to a 66-65 win over Brighton (Utah) in the third-place game of the Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyo.

Anson Winder passed to Muhammad for the go-ahead score. Brighton missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer.

Kylel Coleman led the Gaels with 22 points, and Winder scored 11. John Loyd and Muhammad each had 10. Xavier Grimble had 10 rebounds for Gorman.

Corbin Miller led Brighton with 22 points.

Gorman’s Coleman and Winder were named to the all-tournament team.

Rincon (Ariz.) 66, Cimarron-Memorial 53 — At the Bradshaw Mountain Holiday Classic in Prescott, Ariz., Kevin Olekaibe had 27 points, but the Spartans fell to Rincon in the tournament’s championship game.

Dale Puckett added 12 rebounds for the Spartans, who trailed 31-26 at halftime.

Gilbert Tafoya led the Rangers with 25 points.

Olekaibe was named to the all-tournament team.

GIRLS
Campbell County (Wyo.) 61, Bishop Gorman 60 — At the Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyo., Aaryn Ellenberg scored 26 points, but the Gaels came up just short, losing to host Campbell County (Wyo.) in the championship game.

Dannielle Diamant added 16 points for the Gaels. Ellenberg and Diamant both were named to the all-tournament team.
