Las Vegas High gained 485 yards and rolled to a 34-15 win over visiting Cimarron-Memorial on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.
Farrell Victor rushed for 156 yards on 14 carries, including a 77-yard touchdown run with 1:19 to go in the first half that gave the Wildcats a 10-2 lead.
Cimarron, which didn’t have a first down in the first half, scored on its first possession after halftime, with Christian Brown’s 1-yard run cutting the lead to 10-8.
But Las Vegas responded by scoring on its next four possessions to pull away.
Hasaan Henderson completed 19 of 30 passes for 213 yards, including a 39-yard TD pass to Cameron Rogers. Henderson added an 8-yard TD run.
Rogers caught 10 passes for 137 yards and Lamond Powe rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats.
Las Vegas kicker Jay Mattox booted field goals of 29 and 51 yards to close out the scoring.
Las Vegas’ defense was dominant. Cimarron had 18 yards of offense and no first downs in the first half.
The Spartans finished with 125 yards of offense, with 81 coming on the team’s final drive, capped by an 11-yard TD pass from Gerard Martinez to Taz Taoipu.
Las Vegas had chances to pull away in the first half, but the Wildcats turned the ball over twice in the red zone. On the team’s first offensive play, Henderson’s pass went through the hands of Marquan Major and was intercepted by Cimarron’s Brandon Robinson.
Later in the first half, Henderson tried to dive across the goal line on first-and-goal from the 4 but fumbled, and Robinson recovered to end the drive.
The Wildcats were penalized 14 times for 95 yards.

Great opening game, Cats -- a season isn't made in ONE game! You made great improvements in the second half and you have an entire season to shut up the haters! See you in the Championship game in December!
Overrated wrote on August 27, 2010 11:23 AM: that was a pisspore game if vegas is one of the best in the state they didnt show it las night, i mean to turn the ball over three times in the first half is not what the best do, and you dont turn it over inside your oppenents 5 yard line. Also for the coach to call a pitch backed up against his goal line very bad coaching this isnt madden coach, after watching last night i believe vegas is very overrated because cimmmaron is not going to be good this year at all!!!!!!!!!
