NOTES: Eleven locals up for Nevada High School Heisman awards

Twenty athletes from Nevada have been named state finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, an annual honor that recognizes athletic and academic excellence.
Local boys state finalists are Boulder City’s Cody Molisee, Coronado’s Lucas Sanford, Faith Lutheran’s Jake Benowitz, Pahrump Valley’s Bryce Moser, Palo Verde’s Cody Schuster, Spring Valley’s Royce Rasmussen and The Meadows’ Garrett Gosse.
Girls finalists are Boulder City’s Mikaela Stevens, Faith Lutheran’s Renee Vogel, Green Valley’s Lindsay Seberry and Mountain View’s Briana Marruffo.
One male and one female will be announced as state winners on Friday, and a total of 12 state winners will vie for the national honor to be announced Dec. 9.
SCHEDULE CHANGE — Friday’s Sunrise Region quarterfinal football game between Valley (4-5) and host Liberty (8-1) has been moved from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. so it can be televised locally on Cox Cable 12.
COACHING CHANGES — Cimarron-Memorial has two new basketball coaches this season, with Ryan Fretz hired to take over the boys program and Gregory Holloway to lead the girls program.
Also, Roger Brown said he has stepped down as Arbor View’s boys soccer coach after four seasons at the helm. He will continue as the Aggies’ athletic director.
COLLEGE COMMITMENTS — Several local seniors have made recent college commitments, with the fall signing period for most sports beginning Wednesday.
Seniors making decisions include Bishop Gorman baseball player Evan Dunn (Pepperdine), Coronado softball player Katie Cochran (South Dakota), Arbor View girls soccer player Lauren Shadel (Missouri State), Gorman girls volleyball player Shelby Devlin (Southeastern Louisiana), Clark boys tennis player Kris Yee (Vanderbilt) and Gorman girls tennis player Sarah Bessen (Dartmouth).
GOLF HONORS — In girls golf, Green Valley’s Sarah Thomas was named Sunrise Region Player of the Year, while Faith Lutheran’s Annie Freman took Sunset Player of the Year.
Coach of the Year went to Green Valley’s Greg Murphy in the Sunrise and Faith Lutheran’s Mark Cheney in the Sunset.
The All-Las Vegas team consists of Thomas, Freman, Faith Lutheran’s Brianna Becker and Julia Becker, Green Valley’s Alex Kaui, Mercedes Khumnark and Kristen Hsu, Coronado’s Melanie Chambers and Olivia Greenwald, Basic’s Jamie Donizio, Silverado’s Brittany Whatley, Canyon Springs’ Taylor Candley and Cimarron’s Aspen Bryant.
