Football coaches association honors 2011 Hall of Fame class

The Southern Nevada High School Football Coaches Association inducted its 2011 Hall of Fame class during a banquet at the Orleans on Tuesday night.

Coaches Bruce Bayne, Dan Cahill, Chris Faircloth, Ron Resler and Tommy Rowland; officials Mark Perlman and Scott Teifer; historical figures Rick Richardson, Warren Okelberry and Dr. Andrew Welch; and Clark County School District administrator Pat Hayden were inducted.

“It’s a huge family of people who have coached this kid or that kid,” Hall of Fame president Horrace Smith said. “The hat has to be off to those guys. We have to thank them, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Bayne coached at Western and Bonanza, and has worked as an official.

Cahill coached swimming, soccer and football at Basic and was football coach at Boulder City from 1995 to 2000.

Faircloth was 78-17 with two Class 4A state titles in seven years as Las Vegas High’s coach before resigning in January.

Resler was a teacher and coach in football, soccer, cross country and track at Boulder City for 32 years.

Rowland was an assistant football coach at Valley, Eldorado and Clark after playing lineman on the first UNLV football team.

Perlman joined the Southern Nevada Officials Association in 1980 and climbed through the ranks to eventually officiate in Super Bowls XL and XLIII.

Teifer has worked six state title games since joining the SNOA in 1985.

Richardson was president of the SNOA for 15 years.

Okelberry played football at Las Vegas High, then returned to coach the Wildcats.

Welch is an orthopedic surgeon in Las Vegas who has done physical therapy with high school athletes.

MILLER HONORED — Bruce Miller, who served as director of athletics and activities in the CCSD from 1976 to 1992, was recently inducted into the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame.

COLLEGE DECISIONS — Senior athletes who recently signed with Division I colleges include Coronado softball player Lee Harrison (St. Peter’s) and Bishop Gorman swimmer Ian Sinclair (Cal Poly).

In girls soccer, seniors to make recent commitments include Gorman’s Allie Arguello (Evansville) and Green Valley’s Cassidy McLean (Northern Arizona).

Spring Valley junior softball player Georgi DeLio committed to UNLV.

VOLLEYBALL HONORS — Boulder City’s girls volleyball team took the top awards in theClass 3A Southern League, with junior setter Avalon Frantz named Most Valuable Player and Cherise Roe named Coach of the Year.
